Omaha sauce beats more than 100 others
An Omaha-produced barbecue sauce, Grandma Foster’s Smooth and Spicy, recently earned the “Best Overall Sauce” award at the Great American Barbecue Competition.
The seventh annual contest was in Kansas City, Mo., last weekend. The sauce beat 116 others to become the top spicy sauce as well.
Grandma Foster’s Smooth and Spicy and Smooth and Mild sauces are the creation of Steve Foster, who perfected them while in college and launched the line in 1996.
The national competition is conducted as a blind taste test.
“It’s nice to know that people like the sauce. It’s like winning an Oscar,” Foster said. “You know you’re doing something right.”
The Smooth and Spicy sauce also won “Best Sauce on the Planet” and best in the spicy division at the 2009 American Royal World Barbecue Competition, which Foster likened to the Super Bowl of barbecue contests. Read More Here
